Anne attended seven different schools across the United States before graduating from high school in 1987. At the age of twelve, due to their impoverished family circumstances, Anne worked at a dinner theater in Swainton.
In an Interview with Larry King Live, she said “At the time we’d been kicked out of our house and my family was holed up living in a bedroom in the home of a generous family from our church,” .”I got $100 a week, which was more than anyone else in my family. We all pooled our money in an envelope in a drawer and saved up enough to move out after a year.”
Heche attended the progressive Francis W. Parker School. When Heche was 16 years old, an agent spotted her in a school play and encouraged her to audition for the daytime soap opera, As the World Turns. In New York City, Heche auditioned and was offered a job, but her mother insisted she finish high school first. In 1987 she did work in a dual role in the daytime soap opera Another Word.
